In all my years of writing, these words today come the hardest. I end the sentence, lean back in my chair for a couple of minutes, drink my morning java-hava and think about writing something completely different. I can’t, and I know what comes will piss people off and I can only hope my written words reflect what I’m trying to yell out to the world. Then again, like everything else, it’s something we all know, we just choose to believe what works for us, what makes us comfortable. Sometimes, tragedy is too great, to painful, too horrible, and it’s easier just to close ones eyes and pretend it doesn’t exist.
You and I are capable of such good and kind measures that we should indeed shower accolade upon each other. That before God we shall give testimony to our numerous good deeds. Indeed there is truth, there is honesty in saying that humans, by and large, are a compassionate people. Compassion is more in our nature, than not. This is true of individuals, of communities, of Nations. The compassion shown for the people of Haiti is clear evidence, and is a celebration of what we as a species are capable of doing when we need to. You and I can hold this out to our God as an example of when we are at our best. We can nourish our souls in that we are a good and kind species, and therefore deserving of Gods grace. You and I are also capable of such great and evil deeds, beyond compare, that any God of sound mind and sense would truly smite such a species and eternally deny any reference to our supposed existence. How can this be? You need to look at these pictures. They are gruesome, heart wrenching and they are vile. Vile in the sense that they represent the worse of the human condition. So stiffen your gut, take the time and scroll through all of them. I well understand the anti Israel aspect of the site. I well understand the faults of both sides in this, or any conflict. What I have to say is not political, it is moral. Why is it we do not accept natures devastation but we deny and ignore the devastation caused by our own hand? So take no solace in the compassion of your soul for God will not judge you and I on our good deeds for good deeds are expected of us. That which is evil, that which we deny, that which we turn from, that is how you and I will be judged. I do not understand how we can allow this horror, in Gaza or anywhere, to continue. War, I understand, but these pictures show no tanks, no weapons, no soldiers. They do show a lot of children. This is not an indictment of Israel or a defense of Hamas .It is an indictment of humanity, of you and I. |
